New FSX Citation X 2.0 render

She's really coming along now. With Bobby's help, panel lines have been applied to the new fuselage, engine nacelles, and vertical stabilizer. Next will be some shadow enhancements Bobby has agreed to assist me with. Be sure to check out the progress he's made on the FS9 2.0 version. Many thanks to Mike for his tutorial on rendering!

Latest Buzz...

There has been quite a bit of "buzz" going on in the FS Community lately. If you haven't been paying attention, here is a summary of a couple hot topics.   ACES: Yesterday & Today  Phil Taylor just posted a very interesting blog entry describing the state of ACES as far as an organizational standpoint. There has been a lot of change there in the past 18 months. In addition to moving to a new building, it is interesting to see how the studio has been split up into 4 distinct areas: Core group - owners of the base platform; Flight Sim group - those who are responsible for taking FS to the next generation; Train Sim group - those who are taking the FSX platform and using it for trains; and the ESP group - taking the FS to a more professional level.     Paul takes us behind the scenes Paul Lange is off to a great start with his new Spaces blog.  He  posted a great slideshow of some behind the scenes moments he was involved with during the production of FSX and Acceleration. He also posted a blog entry with some background on the photos.     PSS shuts its doors Long time producer of high quality FS add-on aircraft Phoenix Simulation Software (PSS) has shut down. It seems the biggest factor in this has been the rampant piracy of their products. Their closure has sparked some interesting threads at Simflight and AVSIM. Software piracy is something that I'll probably post an entry on in the coming weeks...

Paul Lange A.K.A. P-12C joins Spaces

It seems that Hal has started a trend. First he joined Spaces, then Brett, then Mike, then I joined the foray. Now we have Paul Lange A.K.A. P-12C in the mix, and he seems to be happy with the move. Welcome to Spaces, Paul! Don't be a stranger.

PC Pilot Issue 51 - Eaglesoft Interview & Twin Comanche review

Just hitting newstands here in the U.S., issue 51 of PC Pilot magazine features not one, but two articles with an Eaglesoft focus. In their Meet the Producer's series, PC Pilot interviews Ron Hamilton, president of Eaglesoft. The second is a review of the Twin Comanche - they gave it a 90 out of 100 - we'll take that! Thanks to PC Pilot for oustanding coverage of the FS community and allowing Eaglesoft to be a part of it all.

The Citation X 2.0 underway

I have been quiet lately with infrequent posts. This has not been in vain - I have been busy on several projects and I've kept my nose to the grindstone. I thought that it was a good opportunity to show some of the work that I've been doing now that I've reached a 'milestone.' Let me present the Citation X 2.0 for FSX.

I found this nice curvy paint scheme from the trusty resource of Airliners.net. D-BKLI is the DaimlerChrysler Corporation's Citation X. I used this scheme as a proof-of-concept for a new texturing technique I have implemented as a first for Eaglesoft. On the fuselage and engine nacelles, each polygon face has planar mapping. What this means in layman's terms is that there will be no stretched or smeared textures, as existed on the original Eaglesoft Citation X. This technique will probably be a bit of a challenge for the repaint artists in the FS community, but I think they will quickly appreciate what can be done now. Stay tuned as I'll start showing more progress as it is made with (hopefully) more frequent posts.

Important note: I would hope that the community would be educated enough to realize that this 2.0 is based upon the work of Bob Hayes' original Citation X. His excellent model has left me (thankfully) very little to improve upon. The single biggest improvement will be the new texture layout - the actual polygonal structure of the aircraft is very accurate. Thanks Bob - it is an honor to continue the work you started!
